Crystal Palace Ladies 1-1 Coventry United Ladies
United win 3-2 on penalties
SSE Womens' FA Cup (Third Round)
Coventry United Ladies seal progression to the Fourth Round of the SSE Womens' FA Cup with a penalty shootout victory at fellow Womens' Premier League Southern Division outfit Crystal Palace. United went ahead early on through Helen Dermody's penalty after Jade Brook was tripped by a combination of Amy Green and Rosie Paye.
The game was stopped for over a hour due to a serious injury to Coventry United attacker Keeley Davies. Keeley was taken to hospital via ambulance after a heavy fall in the closing stages of the first half. Thankfully Keeley returned to the ground after the final whistle and was able to celebrate the victory with her teammates.
An equalising goal from Nikita Whinnett took the game to Extra Time, but neither side could find the all important winning goal in the added 30 minutes. So the tie went to penalties. Despite an opening miss from United's Anna Wilcox, the Red and Green Girls won 3-2 thanks to 2 saves from skipper Sue Wood and a miss from a Palace player. United could face one of the biggest teams in the country in the Fourth Round with WSL1 sides now entering the fray. Wherever we go and whatever happens next, this is a moment to savour for everyone connected to this growing club.
